Who is responsible for your information
WGR (Weedy Garage Radio) operates this website and is the controller of personal information collected directly through this website. Contact: admin@weedygarageradio.xyz or /contact. This policy applies to WGR member accounts, profiles, Forum topics and replies, forum replies, forms, submissions, moderation and administration. A third-party platform is responsible for information it collects through its own service.
Information WGR may collect
- Account and profile details such as a username, display name, profile picture, biography, links, account status and securely stored password information.
- Contact details and the contents of enquiries, music submissions, privacy requests and copyright reports.
- Artist, release, label and schedule information supplied for publication.
- Forum topics and replies, uploaded forum images, forum replies, automatic activity-rank information, moderation records, display preferences and community-voting records.
- Technical and security information such as IP address, browser or device details, timestamps, request logs and evidence of suspicious activity.
- Cookie and local-storage choices needed to remember site preferences.
Why WGR uses information
WGR uses personal information to provide requested website features; manage shared member accounts, profiles, the forum; review submissions; publish approved artist, release and schedule information; respond to enquiries; moderate content; protect the website; prevent abuse; keep records; and comply with legal duties.
The lawful basis depends on the activity. It may be necessary to perform a service you request or take steps at your request; necessary for WGR’s legitimate interests in running, securing and improving an independent underground music hub and information service; necessary to meet a legal obligation; or based on your consent for an optional feature. Where consent applies, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful use.
Sharing and external services
WGR does not sell personal information. Information may be available to authorised administrators and service providers that support hosting, security, email or website operation. It may also be shared where reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect rights and safety, respond to a valid legal request or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
When you open or interact with an external player, link or platform, that provider may receive information including your IP address and browser data. Some providers may process information outside the UK. Their own privacy information explains their role, locations and safeguards. Embedded players and remote images may contact a provider as soon as a page loads, before you press Play. See /cookies for the current storage and player behaviour.
How long information is kept
WGR keeps information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose collected, site security, moderation, dispute handling or legal obligations. Account, profile, forum records may be kept while an account is active and for a proportionate period afterwards. Hidden or removed community content and moderation notes may be retained where reasonably needed to prevent abuse, review an appeal, protect users or meet legal obligations. Enquiries, submissions and reports are retained while they are handled and for an appropriate record-keeping period. Security logs are normally kept for a short operational period unless they are needed to investigate an incident. Published artist and release information may remain while the listing is active or archived. WGR reviews information and deletes or anonymises it when it is no longer needed.
Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to be informed, access your personal information, correct inaccurate information, request erasure, restrict processing, receive portable information, object to processing and withdraw consent. Rights can be limited by law and do not all apply to every use. WGR does not use solely automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
To exercise a right, use /contact and write “Privacy request” in the subject. WGR may ask for proof of identity and will respond within the period required by applicable law. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
Security and changes
WGR uses access controls, secure sessions, password hashing, anti-spam checks and administrative safeguards designed to protect information. No internet service can promise absolute security. This policy may be updated when the site, providers or law changes; the review date on this page shows the latest published review.
Current UK data-protection law
WGR handles personal information under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. The 2025 Act updates rather than replaces those laws. WGR applies the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) to cookies and similar storage or access technologies. Where consent is required, WGR asks before use and provides a way to change the choice. WGR also considers the higher-protection needs of children when designing online features that are likely to be accessed by them.
Public profiles, saved favourites and notifications
Your username, display name, profile image, public posts, activity rank and approved artist connections can be visible to visitors. Your email address and password hash are not displayed on your public profile. About-me text appears publicly when you choose that setting. Saved artists and music are private unless you enable public favourites in your profile editor; turning sharing off hides that list on your public profile, but cannot remove copies already made by others. Public forum posts may be indexed by search engines.
WGR stores saved-item records and forum notification records against your account. Replies and @username mentions can generate notifications for the topic author or other participants. Notifications are available to the recipient in the Members area. These features do not provide a private messaging service.
Artist suggestions and event sources
Artist connections link a member account to an artist profile after administration review. Profile-change and release proposals, supporting links, review notes and decisions are available to the submitting member and authorised administrators. Sending a suggestion does not publish it automatically. Approved information may be added to a public artist or music page.
The event bot may obtain publicly available organiser, artist, venue, date, ticket-link, description and image information from ticket sources such as Skiddle and RavePass. That information can be used in public forum event topics. Imported information may be incomplete or out of date. Contact WGR to request a correction or raise a concern about your personal information appearing in a listing.
Purposes and lawful bases
Account administration and features you request are processed where necessary to provide the account service. Moderation, fraud prevention, service security and relevant public music/event information rely on legitimate interests, balanced against the rights of the people concerned. Responding to legally required requests relies on legal obligations. Where WGR relies on consent for an optional publication or storage feature, you can withdraw it using the relevant setting or by contacting WGR. A public listing or optional feature is not permission to send marketing messages.
Requests and complaints
Contact admin@weedygarageradio.xyz with “Privacy request” or “Privacy complaint”, your username if relevant and the information needed to locate the issue. Do not send your password or unnecessary identity documents. WGR may request proportionate verification where needed and responds within the applicable statutory timeframe. You can complain to the ICO at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/. Account closure does not automatically remove every public post, moderation record or backup: WGR will assess deletion or anonymisation requests and any lawful reason to retain information.
