# MC Rockeye – North East Makina MC **MC Rockeye**, real name **Jimmy Mason**, is one of the best-known MCs associated with the North East England Makina scene. Rockeye came through a generation where Makina wasn't simply music heard inside clubs. It became part of youth culture across Newcastle, Sunderland and surrounding areas, with fast Spanish-influenced dance music combined with the distinctive rapid-fire North East MC style. ## A Voice of North East Makina Rockeye became particularly well known through live performances and recordings, but the internet also played a major part in spreading his name. A feature about the North East Makina scene described **MC Rockeye and Genno D** as two of the scene's biggest MCs to emerge through YouTube as well as live raves. That helped introduce the North East MC sound to people who may never have attended the original clubs. ## More Than Just Rave Music Rockeye has also spoken publicly about why the rave scene means so much to people in the North East. In the 2020 **Makina!** documentary from Boiler Room and the British Council, Rockeye described rave as a place where people from completely different backgrounds come together on equal terms. He also described Makina as a sound deeply connected with everyday North East life — the kind of music heard around estates, parks and groups of young people growing up in the region. That community connection is one of the reasons Makina has survived long after many of its famous clubs disappeared. ## Rockeye & Genno D One combination that many Makina listeners will recognise is: **MC Rockeye B2B Genno D** Recordings of the pair circulated online and attracted large audiences, helping introduce another generation to North East MCing. Old SoundCloud collections still preserve Rockeye and Genno D material alongside recordings from MC Stompin, Tazo, Stretch, Lyric and other North East MCs. ## Still Performing Rockeye isn't simply a name from the old rave archives. He's **still performing in 2026**. On **26 September 2026**, MC Rockeye is appearing at **Bounce Sessions Sunderland** at Elysium Nightclub. The line-up includes: **Andy Whitby x MC Tazo** **DJ Armaz x MC Stompin** **Alan Benn x MC Crazy-T** **HyperNoiz x MC Rockeye** **CH4SINGTHEHIGH x Davey Blast** It's a good example of different generations of North East rave talent continuing to appear together. ## Keeping Makina Alive MC Rockeye represents something important about the North East Makina scene. The clubs may have changed. The way people discover music has changed. Tapes became CDs. CDs became MP3s. Forums became YouTube and social media. But the distinctive combination of **Makina and North East MCing survived**. Rockeye has been one of the people carrying that sound forward. --- ### Do You Remember MC Rockeye?
