# DJ & MC Attack – Sunderland / North East Rave History **DJ & MC Attack** is a veteran name from the North East England rave scene, with connections stretching across the **Colosseum, Hangar 13, After Dark-style events and the wider 1990s hardcore scene**. Known as **Daz Attack**, he came from **Sunderland** and was unusual in being involved with the scene on **both sides of the microphone – as an MC and a DJ**. ## MC Attack An old North East rave profile for Attack lists some impressive venues and events: **The Colosseum Hangar 13 Rezerection Dreamscape Dance Concept Judgement Day** His influences included **MC Motormouth and MC G-Force**, placing him within the earlier generation of North East MC culture. Attack's advice to upcoming MCs was essentially to keep things relevant and effective rather than constantly talking over the music – describing his preferred approach as **short, sharp and powerful**. ## The Colosseum Attack has a particularly interesting connection with **The Colosseum**. A surviving recording from **2 December 1995** features: **DJ Crossfade MC G-Force MC Attack** live at The Colosseum. That recording is important for the WGR archive because it puts Attack directly alongside **G-Force**, another of the pioneering North East rave MCs. DJ Attack also appears in surviving references to **Colosseum-style sets**, showing the other side of his involvement with the music. ## Hangar 13 Attack became part of the **Hangar 13** story as well. Several surviving recordings feature him alongside other major North East MCs. One Hangar 13 recording features: **DJs Richard & Johnny Bass DJ Paddy** with: **MC Techno-T MC G-Force MC Attack MC Jet** Another features: **DJ Bass Generator DJ Scott** with: **MC G-Force MC Techno-T MC Attack** There's also a surviving set featuring: **DJ Quest DJ Matty O MC Jet MC Attack** These recordings give us a brilliant snapshot of the North East MC scene during the Hangar 13 period. ## DJ Attack & MC Attack Together One particularly interesting surviving recording shows both sides of Attack's involvement. An **Orbital Prophecy** recording features: **DJ Scott DJ Attack** with: **MC Techno-T MC Attack MC Massive MC Jet** So Attack wasn't simply somebody who picked up a microphone. **DJing was also part of his rave history.** ## The Tuxedo Princess Attack continued appearing around the North East during the 2000s. For the **Hangar 13 Tuxedo Princess Boat Party in Newcastle on 29 August 2004**, DJ Attack was billed for a **“Colo set”** – a reference back to the Colosseum sound. The same event also had MC Attack appearing alongside an enormous collection of North East MCs including: **G-Force Jet Techno-T Stompin Stretch Massive KC** The event therefore brought together several generations and styles from the region's rave history. ## After Dark 2 Style Attack's MCing also remained associated with the old **After Dark 2** style. For a Newcastle Tuxedo Princess event in August 2006, **MC Stompin & MC Attack** were advertised as hosting the main arena and bringing back the **AD2 warm-up style of MCing**. That little piece of history is useful because it tells us something about Attack's actual MC style rather than simply providing another name on a flyer. ## Part of the Original North East Generation When we put the surviving material together, Attack belongs to an important generation of North East rave performers. His history crosses: **The Colosseum Hangar 13 After Dark culture Judgement Day Rezerection Dreamscape** And he performed alongside people such as: **MC G-Force MC Techno-T MC Jet MC Stompin** Attack therefore deserves recognition not only as an MC, but as someone involved with the development of the **North East hardcore and rave sound as both DJ and MC**. --- ## Do You Remember DJ & MC Attack? Did you see **Attack at The Colosseum, Hangar 13 or another North East rave**? Did you prefer him **DJing or MCing**? Have you still got an old Attack tape, CD, flyer or photograph?
