MC Ace – North East Makina / New Monkey MC Ace is one of the MCs associated with the classic North East Makina scene, particularly Sunderland's legendary New Monkey. Ace can be heard on surviving New Monkey recordings from the early 2000s, performing alongside MCs including Tazo, TNT and Stompin. One surviving session from 17 August 2002 features MC Ace, MC Tazo and MC TNT, while a recording from 19 October 2002 features MC Ace and MC Stompin over a Chrissy G set. Old forum posts show that Ace was already well known among North East ravers by 2003. One HappyHardcore member described Ace as their favourite MC and specifically connected him with the New Monkey. Another 2003 discussion mentions DJ Cliffy and MC Ace travelling from the New Monkey scene to perform at an event in Workington. More than 20 years later, many of these original recordings have survived and can still be heard online. MC Ace is another name worth remembering when documenting the DJs and MCs who helped create the distinctive North East Makina sound of the early 2000s. Do you remember MC Ace? Did you see Ace at the New Monkey, Powerhouse or another North East rave? Have you got any old tapes, CDs, flyers, photos or recordings featuring him? Post your memories and links below.
