# MC Genno D – North East Makina / Monta MC **MC Genno D** is one of the best-known names from the later generation of the **North East Makina and Monta scene**. While earlier MCs built their reputations through clubs such as the New Monkey and through tapes and CDs, Genno D came through during a period when **YouTube and online recordings were becoming increasingly important**. ## Genno D & MC Rockeye One of the combinations most strongly associated with this generation is: **MC Rockeye & MC Genno D** The pair became hugely popular online, with their Makina MC recordings spreading far beyond the original rave events. When Vice documented North East Makina, it singled out **Rockeye and Genno D** as two of the biggest MC names breaking through YouTube. That makes Genno D important to the story of how North East MC culture moved into the internet generation. ## Documented by The Guardian Genno D also appears in The Guardian's 2017 feature about underground music in northern England. Its section on Newcastle Makina included archive material labelled: **MC Rockeye // MC Genno D // 21 OCT 2010** The article explained how Makina had developed its own distinctive North East MC style and how later MCs increasingly used lyrics reflecting their own lives. This wasn't simply rave hype anymore. The MC had become one of the main attractions. ## Makina on YouTube For younger North East ravers, YouTube changed everything. Instead of needing somebody to copy a rave tape or CD, recordings could suddenly spread between thousands of listeners online. Genno D became one of the names strongly associated with that change. Old uploads and playlists still contain recordings such as: **MC Genno D – Like A Prayer** along with numerous Genno D and Rockeye performances. Some of these recordings accumulated hundreds of thousands of plays. ## More Than Just Rockeye Although Genno D is frequently remembered alongside Rockeye, plenty of other combinations survive. One recording features: **MC Hudson MC Frenchie MC Rockeye MC Genno D** at **Area 51**. Another surviving recording brings together: **MC Genno D MC Tricken MC Mitchy Cee** And there's a Makina tribute recording featuring: **MC Tommo & MC Genno D** dedicated to **Reece Allan**. These recordings show Genno D working across the wider North East MC community rather than simply as one half of a fixed partnership. ## Still Performing Genno D continued performing long after his early YouTube recordings. In December 2023 he was specifically advertised as **“the North East's MC Genno D”** for the NUE Xmas Rave at SR44 in Newcastle. The promoter noted that he'd been in the scene for years and that his lyrics already spoke for themselves. ## Hysteria Genno D has also remained connected with the modern **Hysteria** scene. A recording from **5 September 2025** features: **DJ Red & Pudge** with: **MC Blast MC Genno D MC Reload** The complete set was subsequently uploaded by Hysteria. ## New Monkey vs Hysteria On Boxing Day 2025, Genno D appeared on the enormous MC line-up for: **The New Monkey vs Hysteria** at Elysium in Sunderland. The bill brought together different generations including: **Scotty Jay Turbo D Impulse Stretch Ace Ronez Trance Techno-T Jet Tempo TNT Genno D Blast Crazy T** It's a brilliant example of how different generations of the North East scene now perform together. ## A Different Generation of Makina Genno D's place in North East rave history is slightly different from some of the MCs we've already documented. With people like Techno-T and G-Force, we're looking back towards the early 1990s. With Tazo, Stompin and Ace, we're heavily into the classic New Monkey era. **Genno D represents the generation that helped carry North East Makina into YouTube, social media and the modern Monta scene.** And that's just as important to preserve. --- ## Do You Remember MC Genno D? Were you listening to **Genno D & Rockeye** when their recordings started spreading around YouTube? What's your favourite Genno D rhyme or set? Did you see him at **Area 51, Monta events, Hysteria or another North East rave**?
