# MC Lyric – Gateshead / New Monkey Makina MC **MC Lyric**, real name **Robbie Loughran**, is a North East Makina MC from **Gateshead** who became closely associated with the later years of Sunderland's legendary **New Monkey**. For people who were listening to New Monkey recordings during the mid-2000s, Lyric became one of the recognisable voices of that generation of the club. ## Gateshead to the New Monkey Lyric's own surviving artist profile identifies him as: **Robbie Loughran – Gateshead** By the mid-2000s he was appearing on New Monkey recordings alongside established North East MCs including: **MC Stompin MC Rocking MC Trance MC Tazo MC Ace** His recordings give us a useful picture of the younger generation of MCs who were coming through while the New Monkey was still operating. ## DJ Frostie – MC Lyric & MC Rocking One particularly useful surviving recording is dated: **21 January 2006** and features: **DJ Frostie MC Lyric MC Rocking** at the New Monkey. It's described as DJ Frostie's first Monkey set and survives online today. ## Lyric & Rocking One of the combinations particularly associated with this period is: **MC Lyric & MC Rocking** Another surviving New Monkey recording from **4 November 2006** features DJs Ricki King and Frostie with: **MC Lyric MC Rocking MC Retro MC Intern** Lyric and Rocking also became associated with the Makina vocal **“Summer Dreams of Love”**, which continues to circulate among New Monkey and Makina fans. ## Stompin & Lyric Lyric also performed alongside **MC Stompin**. A surviving recording is titled: **DJ Matrix – MC Stompin B2B MC Lyric – The New Monkey** Putting Lyric alongside an established MC such as Stompin demonstrates how he became part of the wider New Monkey MC roster. ## The Wider North East Scene Lyric's recordings weren't limited to the New Monkey. Material also survives from **Dimensional on 21 December 2007**, featuring: **DJ Gary-MC & MC Lyric** Later recordings on Lyric's own account document him performing at **Clash of the Titans** events during 2013. These include sets with: **DJ Halman DJ Ollie-B DJ Andy Effect MC Element** One of those events was specifically promoted as a **New Monkey Special**. ## Part of a New Monkey Generation When documenting New Monkey history, it's important not to concentrate only on the earliest MCs. The club existed long enough for different generations of DJs and MCs to emerge. Lyric represents an important part of that later generation. By 2006 he was appearing alongside people such as **Rocking and Stompin**, while recordings of his performances continued to circulate long after the original club had gone. ## Preserving the Recordings One of the great things about researching MC Lyric is that a fair amount of material has survived. Old recordings that once circulated through **CDs, downloads, phones and rave websites** have found their way onto modern streaming platforms. That means somebody discovering North East Makina today can still hear what **MC Lyric sounded like inside the New Monkey era**. And that's exactly the sort of material we want to preserve in the WGR archive. --- ## Do You Remember MC Lyric? Did you see **MC Lyric at the New Monkey**? Do you remember **Lyric & Rocking**? What about **Stompin B2B Lyric**? Have you still got any old Lyric CDs, recordings, photographs or flyers? Post anything you've got below and help us document another part of the **North East Makina story**. **Weedy Garage Radio – Keeping North East Rave History Alive.**
