Mixcloud – A Home for DJs, Radio Shows and Underground Music

If you’re into DJ mixes, radio shows, underground music and discovering sounds outside the usual mainstream playlists, Mixcloud is well worth knowing about.
Launched in 2008, Mixcloud has grown into a major online platform for DJs, radio presenters, producers, podcasters and music fans. Rather than concentrating mainly on individual tracks, Mixcloud has built its reputation around long-form audio — DJ sets, radio programmes, mixes and other curated shows.
Built for DJs and Radio
One of the things that makes Mixcloud stand out is how naturally it fits DJ and radio culture.
DJs can upload recorded sets covering everything from house, trance and techno to jungle, drum & bass, UK hardcore, makina, old skool, garage and countless other styles. Radio presenters can also archive shows so listeners can catch up after the original broadcast.
For underground music communities, that makes Mixcloud particularly useful. A mix doesn't disappear just because somebody missed it live — it can remain online for people to discover later.
Discover New DJs and Music
Mixcloud isn't only somewhere to upload your own material. It's also a huge place for music discovery.
You can follow DJs and creators you enjoy, explore different genres and find mixes from established names alongside bedroom DJs, independent radio stations and underground selectors.
Sometimes the best finds aren't the biggest accounts. You can stumble across an old-school set, forgotten rave tunes or a DJ you've never heard before and end up listening for hours.
Keeping DJ Sets Alive
DJ mixes have always been an important part of dance-music culture.
Years ago they were passed around on cassette tapes, CDs and MiniDiscs. Later came MP3 downloads, internet-radio archives and forum links. Today, services such as Mixcloud provide another way of keeping that culture accessible online.
That's especially important for underground scenes. Old mixes can become little time capsules, capturing the tunes and styles being played during a particular period.
For anyone interested in rave and club history, those recordings can be just as interesting years later.
